Oct 3rd: Time to try on my Costumes!

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Yes!! It’s October!! Which for us at the farm is basically Christmas!  I’ve got so many costumes this year I think I will have to wear a different one each day!
The 30 days of Halloween.  LOVE IT!!

I think perhaps my theme song should be, “Jingle Roy, Jingle Roy, Jingle all the ROY!!!”  or “Here comes Rooster Clause, Here comes Rooster Clause….”

October also marks Charlie’s 4 month mark!  The Prince of Brooks Farms (in case you haven’t met him) .  He’s growing so quickly – already 29 inches and 18lbs – not the average size of a 4 month old.  Must be the farmer in him!
He too has many costumes to sport – a Robot, a Giraffe, a Pumpkin, a Spider and a Chicken.  So many options – so little time.

Which brings us to Georgie!! Perhaps we should have a costume competition between myself, George and Charlie??  Mind you, I don’t like to set others up to lose – because it’s hard to beat a Rooster dressed as Paul Brooks (aka Major Vortex!)  HA HA!!

No Frost yet – so we’ve still got Raspberries, Strawberries and Apples.  It’s also a great time to come out and Pick Your Own Pumpkin!!

This weekend at the Fall Festival is Tractor Day on Sunday!!  WOO HOO!!! it’s our fourth one this year (and our last one, so don’t miss out)  kids just love it!

I suppose that’s all for today!

Roy Good-Looking Out!

October! October! October!

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

I’ll be the first to admit it….  I really am no good at keeping up on these blogs.  Seriously, what do you expect from a Rooster?  I am up at the Crack of Dawn and spend the entire night keeping watch on my hens!  With that gang of Coyotes hanging around and that mean ol’ fox – I’ve got my work cut out for me.

But Alas… Here I am.  Writing for you! My fans! (or so I like to tell myself).   We welcomed a new baby goat a few days back and our Fall Fun Festival is well under way!  It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.  Apple trees are over flowing with delicious fruit and we’ve still got our ever bearing Strawberries and Raspberries!

This Sunday is Grandparents day.  Awesome!! So that means that with each child over the age of two, one Grandparent is admitted free onto the farm!  Double Awesome!!!!!

Looking for some fancy gear?  Barnyard Bumpkins t-shirts and toques are now available weekends at the farm.  Check out our website www.barnyardbumpkins.com to choose your favourite character in advance.
Special farm pricing on all gear!!!  WOO HOO!!!

Well, I guess that’s all I got to say for today – but I will do my very best to return next week with another update!

June 26 – Strawberries, Peas and Babies?

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

My biggest APOLOGIES that it’s been so long since my last rant.  (It’s almost unforgivable!!)  But believe me… things at the farm have been busy busy busy.  Did I mention busy?  YES BUSY!! On June 5, Farmer Paul and his wife Kelly gave birth to their first child – 6th generation to the farm, Charlie London Brooks.  He was born a healthy 9lb 6oz – good farmer blood!!  So we’ve obviously been celebrating!!  They actually won’t let me into the house (something about me being a dirty bird…even though I showered!) but I have managed to sneak several peeks through the windows.  Charlie is doing great!!

Baby aside, we are experiencing our BEST berry crop in years!!  Picking is fantastic, and the berries are big and beautiful.  (My favourite quote from last years video).

Asparagus is still going strong and Peas are just beginning.  We had our first Pea Pick Friday!!  Nothing like fresh peas! Deeeeelicious!

Now, not sure if you’ve heard… even more exciting news!!  We have a brand new Animated Singing Chicken Show.  It’s part of our Summer Fun Festival!!  Kids just love it, and although I am not in the show I will admit it’s quite
wonderful.  (even without me? I know…. crazy talk!)

The farm is now open Full time for the Season:

Pick Your Own Monday – Friday 8am – 8pm, Weekends 8am – 5pm
Summer Fun Festival:  Daily from 10am – 4pm  (paid admission $6.00/person for play yard)

Hope to see y’all real soon at the farm!

Friday September 17….. Almost Saturday! GO TIME!

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house….not a creature was stirring except for a stinky bulldog.
Which brings me to ask,  why exactly is the bulldog allowed to sleep in the house and I have to sleep in a chicken coop?   Doesn’t seem fair.  But I suppose it’s my body guard duty to protect my hens.

So… tomorrows the big day, THE ANNUAL FUN FALL FESTIVAL opens!!  So many attractions!! So much Entertainment!! Fresh Donuts and the Chip Truck! I just might explode with excitement!!
Gates open at 10am and close at 5pm.  Admission is $10, but you can find all the necessary facts under our FARM FUN section!

If you would like to visit the farm for pick your own Strawberries and Raspberries you do not have to pay admission – although you will see all the people having the best time of their lives… and you will probably be jealous… which will make you purchase a ticket to join the fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Who doesn’t love Pumpkin cannons??
If you want to Pick Apples, Admission must be purchased (as the Orchard is located within the festival area).

Not sure how I am supposed to sleep when Christmas (or my version of) starts tomorrow!!
YIPPPPPEEEEEEE!

Wednesday August 25 – It’s feeling like fall!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

So, it’s hot.  Then cool.  Then really hot.  Then really cool.  Should we take the pool down?  What to do?  All the signs that Fall is on it’s way!  But, don’t be sad! Fall means such wonderful things especially at the farm.  Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh Apple or Pumpkin Pie?  Mmmmmm Pie… and Thanksgiving!  I love Thanksgiving!!!  Especially because I am a rooster and not a turkey. (sigh….)
So less than 2 weeks til the kiddies go back to school, which means the Summer Festival is coming to an end.  But wait! Is it?  Well, because our Fall Festival doesn’t begin until September 18, we’ve decided to extend summer until then!!! WOO HOO!
The Play yard will be open weekdays (except mondays!) and weekends for the summer festival until September 17 – then we officially change over to Fall Pricing.  I know, you’re dying, you can’t control your happiness! This is the BEST NEWS EVER!

Don’t forget to love the Messenger…
